Carl Kothe September 19, 1932 - August 22, 2022

Carl Edward Kothe

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church at the age of 89, in St. Louis on Monday, August 22, 2022.  He was the beloved husband of Mary M. Kothe (nee Sanzotera). Dear father of Kevin, Kay (Michael Walker), David (Louanne), Lynn (Craig Pyatt), Glenn (Andrea Sharp), Patrick and Christopher. He will be greatly missed by his 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Dear brother of Susan (Daniel Dee) and Thomas (Aree).

Carl was born on September 19, 1932, and grew up in University City, Missouri.  Attended elementary school at Christ the King School.  He graduated from William Cullen McBride High School.  Carl joined the Marines in 1952 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1955.  Upon discharge from the Marines, Carl took up employment with Dillard’s (formally Stix Bear & Fuller) as a salesman in housewares, then moved to the furniture department where he retired after 40 years.

Carl briefly taught Parish School of Religion at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church. He avidly participated in the Boy Scouts being a Webelo Pack Leader of Troop 249, then became Pack Master of Troop 249.  Carl volunteered with various community organizations and was a very proud member of the Marine Corp League Honor Guard.

Services:  Visitation and funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at St. Matthias the Apostle Church, 796 Buckley Road; St. Louis, MO 63125.  Visitation is at 10:00 am, with Mass to follow at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to St. Matthias St. Vincent DePaul Society.

    Carl was a good friend and an example of who a man should be. I’m so sorry for your loss Mary. Your lives together is a thing of beauty and something to be envied and emulated. I will never forget either of you.
