Dear daughter of the late John Kennedy Walsh and Cecilia McConville Walsh; dear sister of the late John McConville (Polly, dec.) Walsh, the late James Kennedy Walsh and the late Thomas Fitzpatrick (Diane, dec.) Walsh. Dear sister-in-law of the late Patricia Baxendale (George, dec.) Morin.
Dear grandmother of Meaghan (Ryan) Gallagher, Andrew G., Madeline C. and Frank B. Baxendale; Daniel J. (Annie) Matthew C., Katherine W. and James K. Baxendale; Anne E. and Mary Catherine Monachello; Claire M. and Carolyn P. Baxendale; Michael G., Timothy P., Stephen F., Joseph P., Peter A. and John C. Baxendale; Grace E. and Colleen M. Hoy and the late Thomas George Baxendale. Dear great-grandmother of Lillian Margaret and Patrick Francis Baxendale.
Margie was born and reared in Webster Groves, Mo. She attended Holy Redeemer, ’43, and was a proud alumna of Nerinx Hall, ’47, and Maryville College of the Sacred Heart, ’51. In 2005, she was honored as a recipient of Maryville University’s Centennial Award, now known as the Heart of Maryville Award, recognizing her as an alumna whose lifestyle best exemplified the values of the Sacred Heart tradition.
Mom often spoke of the many wonderful neighbors of the Walsh family on Fairview Avenue in Webster. Except for two years while her father was Director of Corrections in Jefferson City, 630 Fairview Avenue was the family home for nearly 50 years.
She was fiercely proud of her Irish Catholic heritage, having traced her maternal McConville ancestry back nearly 400 years to County Armagh in Ireland. As she would often say, “Even though it was in the North, my family was Catholic the entire time!”
After marrying in 1953, Mom & Dad resided in Glendale before moving to Webster Groves to raise their growing family. They were longtime members of Mary, Queen of Peace and later St. Clement of Rome parishes. Mom was devoted to her Catholic faith, was a Eucharistic Minister and attended daily 8 a.m. Mass up until her health no longer permitted it.
Mom and Dad developed many close friendships during their marriage, but none closer than with those couples who were part of “The Discussion Club.” The group met monthly for more than 40 years to discuss current events affecting them, their families and their Faith in an ever-changing world.
Margie and Frank celebrated 51 loving years of marriage before his death in 2004. She was a supportive wife to Dad as he built a successful career as an insurance agent and Independent Agency owner. Mom and Dad enjoyed hosting parties at 445 Sherwood Drive in Webster, and later poolside on the patio at No. 1 West Point Lane. They traveled extensively throughout the world and especially enjoyed trips each fall to the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia to attend the annual conference of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers.
Mom was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, neighbor and friend. She will be deeply missed but always remembered.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, Infant Loss Resources, InfantLossResources.org or a charity of one’s choice are preferred.
