Paul Slates October 2, 1954 - January 17, 2020

David Paul Slates

65 years old, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer.  Paul was born in Quincy, Illinois on October 2, 1954 to Merle Glenn Slates and Jesse Valdeen Loveless. He married Charlene C. Copley on December 3, 1983.  Growing up, Paul played multiple sports (soccer, tennis, basketball) and was involved in the arts, singing and playing the French horn. Paul used his artistic talents painting scenery for the Muny Opera. Paul spent his early career as an accountant for United Van Lines and Christian Northeast/Northwest Hospitals.  He moved into business management and worked for Missouri Baptist University, Mary Institute, and Logos High School. He was the Director of Finance and Operations for Grand Living Associates and a comptroller for Jamie Cannon Associates before moving into home remodeling as a self employed contractor.

Paul was creative, hard working, and the life of the party.  He loved golfing, camping, fishing and seashell hunting at the beach.  His family and friends were the joy of his life. He is survived by his wife Charlene, sister; Betsy Roxanne Troop, 4 children; Emily N. (Austin) Athman, Melanie C. (David) Korn, Stuart P. (Laura) Slates and Scott A. Slates, 3 granddaughters, 4 nephews and their families, and many friends that will miss him deeply.

Services: A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 10 a.m. in St. Louis, at The Crossing, 114 N. Eatherton Road, Chesterfield, MO 63005.  A private family burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the Copley Scholarship Fund at Missouri Baptist University; One College Park Drive, St. Louis MO 63141.
