Steve Nobel November 7, 1949 - June 26, 2023

Stephen Joseph Nobel

73, of Eureka, Missouri, died June 26 2023, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church.  “Steve” Nobel, son of James and Elizabeth Nobel was born November 7, 1949 in St. Louis and grew up in Kirkwood, MO. He is survived by his sisters, Terry, Amy and Ann and his brothers, Bill and Tim and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is preceded in death, by his parents, James and Elizabeth, brother Dan, sister Lucy, niece Maggie and brother-in-law Bob.

Steve was a graduate of St. John Vianney High School, class of 1968. He graduated from Webster University with a music degree and achieved his master’s degree in religious education from St Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.

Steve had a rewarding career as a teacher for over 40 years in humanities, specializing in music and religious education.  He taught in both public and private parochial schools, including St. John Vianney High School and Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory School for many years.

Steve was an avid reader and loved promoting and discussing books with his students, nieces and nephews that engaged the mind in critical thinking. He was known for introducing his family, friends, and students to new ways of thinking through literature and music.

Steve loved the arts, played piano, bass fiddle, wrote original music with lyrics and mentored students in choral music in middle and high school. He had a deep passion for theatre, especially musicals. He made many lifelong friendships through his performing and directing. He loved going to the Muny and Stages to watch those friends perform.

Steve was a leader, and made a positive impact as a sponsor in his AA family where he was always available to help those on the path to sobriety and a better life.

He loved Cardinal baseball and going to Montauk State Park. Most of all Steve loved his family and the Nobel family gatherings for BBQ’s, holidays, graduations, weddings and baby showers.  He was dearly loved by his family and by the many lives he touched.  He will be forever remembered as a person with diverse talents, and as a warm, kind and decent man.

Steve has generously willed his body to science through St. Louis University Medical School.

Steve made a huge impact on my in my high school years at Vianney (class of 81) and I will always remember his music, his wit and humor. He made music really come alive for me and I was honored to be in his choirs those 4 years. I was lucky enough to sing some of his original music and still have copies to this day. God Bless you Steve, you will never be forgotten!
