Frieda G. Michalas Perkins
age 99, fell asleep in the Lord on July 28th, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Stamatia (Antaraki) Michalas; her siblings Mary (Peter) Varvares, Cleo (Alex) Pappas/(Burt) Williams, and Nick (Naomi) Michalas.
Frieda is survived by her children Stan (Mary) Perkins, Alex (Tracy) Perkins, and Nick Perkins; grandchildren Allison (Andrew) Engel, Matt (Juliette) Perkins, Phillip Perkins, Kristin Zuckerman, Natalie (P.J.) Perkins, Elena Perkins, and Andrew Perkins; great-grandchildren Rosemary, Olive, Griffin, Shea, and Abe; koumbaroi, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
The daughter of Greek immigrants, Frieda was born on January 29, 1927. Her father owned a tailor shop in the Central West End, and as a girl she would deliver custom-tailored clothing to her father’s clientele on foot, walking several blocks at a time.
Frieda attended Blewett High School in St. Louis, which merged with Soldan High School a few years later. She graduated in 1945. One of her first jobs after high school was working as a bank teller at Bank of St. Louis. She would go on to perform many roles over her working career, from office administrator to real estate agent, to retail sales specialist, and after-school caregiver. She was devoted to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, not only in her faith, but also as a member of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society, and as a secretary for the church in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Frieda’s talents and interests were abundant and diverse. She was an accomplished painter, avid reader, symphony, theatre and performing arts enthusiast, puzzle-doer, jeopardy-watcher, sports fan, card game and boardgame competitor. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf while in her 50’s & 60’s, crocheting blankets, and cooking. Most of all she took a great deal of pride in being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Godmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Services: On Thursday, August 13, 2026, there will be a visitation at 9:30am and Funeral Service at 10:30am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Ave, St. Louis, 63108. A Burial service at St. Matthew Cemetery, St. Louis, MO will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church are appreciated.
