John J. Ebeling

John J. Ebeling of St. Louis, Missouri, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on July 25, 2026.  Beloved husband of 70 years and preceded in death by the love of his life Elaine D’Angelo Ebeling and siblings Joseph H. Ebeling III, Gerald F. Ebeling, and James O. (Madeline) Ebeling.  Devoted brother to Mary Ebeling (John) Duvic; cherished and loving father of Dr. John J. (Theresa) Ebeling, Mary Catherine (Douglas) Beard, Karen Ann (Robert) Gilbert, Margaret Teresa (Dr. Thomas) Ward, and James Christopher Ebeling; proud Grandpa Chief of 17 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 22.  Dear brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, loved by many.

A champion of labor and dedicated to the cause of those in need, John was President of St. Louis Typographical Union for 32 years, Vice-President of the Print and Media Sector, proud member of Communications Workers of America, Local 6300, first Vice-President of the St. Louis Labor Council, President of the St. Louis Allied Printing Trades Council, and President of the Missouri State Allied Printing Trades Council.  He served on the United Way of Greater St. Louis Board of Directors for 31 years, on the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, and as President of the Board of Directors of the Mary Ryder Home for 16 years.

Recipient of St. Louis Labor Council Andy Owens Community Achievement Award (1998), CWA Printing Sector George P. McDonald Award for Outstanding Union Service (2005), and United Way Freeman-Kortkamp Award (2008).

Services:  We will celebrate John’s life with a Memorial Mass held on Friday, July 31st, 2026 at Christ, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 415 Weidman Road, Manchester, MO 63011 at 11am, with a brunch in the church basement to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities of St. Louis or the United Way of Greater St. Louis.

    It was a pleasure knowing John and as President of Typographical Union #8 he was a great negotiator and did the best for the printers. He will be missed.
