Carol Dubuque July 15, 1933 - January 23, 2022

Carol Dubuque

(nee Stephens), fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Theodore J. Dubuque, Jr., MD, dear mother of Sally (Fitz Gordon), Charles (Tina), Philip (Patricia), Paul (Lauren) and Louis (Mary).  Loving grandmother of 15.  She was the dear daughter of the late Thomas F. Stephens and the late Carolyn Heil Stephens.  She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Hayes (the late Ward) and Sally Stephens, RSCJ.

Carol was a graduate of Villa Duchesne and Maryville College and lived her life as a True Child of the Sacred Heart devoting herself to God, her family and others. Over the years, she volunteered at a number of institutions including Birthright St. Louis and the Friends of Birthright, the Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation, Carmel of St. Joseph, the Fleur de Lis, and her children’s schools.

She and Ted had a great “second chapter” of their lives when he dedicated himself to Project Crudem and its Hopital Sacre Coeur, in Milot, Haiti.  Year after year Carol would join him on numerous and extended trips serving the poorest of the poor by bringing hope and love in addition to high-quality medical care.  Carol was his true partner in all things and came to know and love the people there.  They loved her back.

Meeting Carol and Ted one knew they were deeply in love and quite supportive of each other. Carol and Ted made lifelong friends wherever they went whether at home or in their beloved Haiti. Their kindness and care for the Haitian people was without boundaries. I am so grateful to have known them as fellow members of the Order of Malta and accompanied them to Haiti twice. Carol left a little sparkle wherever she was. RIP

Although I did not know Mrs. Dubuque, her life like that of her husband and fellow member of the Knights of Malta was one of service to others especially the poorest of the poor.
