Dolores Mohrman October 17, 1925 - January 8, 2019

Dolores M. ‘Do’ Mohrman

was born on October 17, 1925 and died on January 8, 2019 in St. Louis at 93 years old.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Raymond F. ‘Ray’ Mohrman, her father and mother, Harry and Edna Hoppmann, her sister Margaret Walsh.  Dolores is survived by her five children, Marilyn Mohrman-Gillis (Jack Gillis), Ray Mohrman Jr. (Karen), Michael Mohrman (Laurie Wilson), Carol Sauerwein (Steve), and Libby Whelan (Brian); 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and her brother Harry Hoppmann, Jr.

Dolores graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1943, and from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Following WWII and while Ray was in graduate school, she served as a surgical nurse at St. Anthony Hospital.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother ‘Nana’ and great grandmother.  Her greatest career accomplishment was mother and homemaker extraordinaire to five children.

Dolores was an avid volunteer.  She served in leadership and volunteer roles in each of her parishes – Our Lady of Sorrows, St Louis; Ste. Genevieve du Bois, Warson Woods; St. Sebastian, Akron, Ohio; Our Lady of Lourdes, University City; St. Anselm, Creve Coeur; and St. Gerard Majella, Kirkwood.  She was the first President of the Walsh Jesuit High School Mothers’ Club (Akron, Ohio) and President of the St. Joseph’s Academy Mothers’ Club.  Dolores was the first female member of the Serra Club of St. Louis and was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.  Her most passionate volunteer service was for Birthright Counseling St Louis.

While her family was her first priority, Dolores was an excellent tennis player into her 70’s, and highly accomplished in competitive bridge and gin rummy.  Additionally, she was an eclectic collector and a gracious hostess who loved entertaining family and friends.  She was also an avid traveler – Dolores and her beloved husband Ray visited all 50 states and over 40 countries.

A celebration of Dolores’ life will be at a Mass of Resurrection on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Gerard Majella Church, 2000 Dougherty Ferry Road, Kirkwood.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.  Internment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis will begin at 12:45 pm.  In lieu of flowers, Dolores requested donations to Birthright Counseling St. Louis, 2525 S. Brentwood Blvd., Suite 102, St Louis MO 63144.

A celebration of Dolores’ life will be at a Mass of Resurrection on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Gerard Majella Church, 2000 Dougherty Ferry Road, Kirkwood.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.
