Hugh Vincent Murray, III
Passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the age of 82 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Hugh was born in St. Louis to Hugh Murray, Jr. and Jane Hassett Murray on October 22, 1941. He went to Portsmouth Abbey School, and attended Missouri University of Science and Technology, majoring in civil engineering. He then earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School. He worked for McDonnell Douglas and Laclede Steel before pursuing his passion for investments by becoming a stockbroker, eventually founding Forsyth Securities.
He was active in the Clayton/Ladue Rotary, a math tutor for underprivileged youth, and participated in Jesuit-led discussion groups for more than 50 years. He always had a passion for the Catholic faith, and wrote an introductory book entitled Understanding Catholicism.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Grohar Murray, and his siblings, John, Elizabeth, Mark, and Nick Murray.
Services: Visitation and funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 23 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2618 S. Brentwood Blvd. Visitation at 9 a.m. with the Mass to follow at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693 appreciated.
