James Anthony Ryan
James Anthony Ryan, age 76, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Jim was the devoted husband of Margaret “Maggie” Ryan (née Pedrotti), with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Bridget, Peggy (Kip), Shawn (Helen), and Jack (Heidi). He was a proud grandfather to Tristen, Peyton, Madison, Kolten, Jake, Claire, Nora, and Bridget.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Jim was the son of the late Dolores and John Ryan and a beloved brother to Mike (Sue), Mary (Don), Jan (Bob), Tom (Annette), and Terri (Carol).
Jim took great pride in his career as a member of Pipefitters Local 562. He spent years working on air conditioning and refrigeration systems, often answering calls at all hours of the night and working tirelessly to get the job done. He believed in hard work, took pride in his trade, and was proud of the life he built through it.
Jim was a family man in the truest sense. His love for Maggie and his commitment to their marriage over more than five decades were a testament to the importance he placed on family. Together, they built a life grounded in hard work, commitment, and shared responsibility, raising four amazing children whose lives reflect the values they were taught. The love and devotion Jim showed Maggie, and the family they built together, will continue to shine through their children and grandchildren.
Jim often showed his love through actions rather than words. He was the person who would fix what was broken, figure out how something worked, or take on a big project around the house. He was a person you could count on. Handy with just about everything, he was rarely without a project—and never far from a flashlight.
His commitment to family extended to his community, where he developed many lasting and devoted friendships throughout his life. Little Flower Catholic Church held a special place in his life, providing a lasting connection to faith, friendship, and community.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of hard work, commitment, and devotion to the people he loved. He will be deeply missed by Maggie, his children and grandchildren, his siblings, extended family, and the many friends whose lives he touched over the years.
May he rest in the peace of Christ.
Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16 at Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63141 from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17 at St. Patrick’s Old Rock Church, 150 Rock Church Road, Catawissa, Missouri 63015 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis. October 16, 2026 at 5:58 amJim and Maggie were good friends back in the Little Flower parish days, some of my all-time favorite human beings. Maggie’s mom Thelma was a hoot. This is very sad, but surely Jim is in heaven, which is the goal of this life.
