Jean Catherine Simon
(nee Pelly) passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in her 91st year. Jean enjoyed her later years residing at Our Lady of Life and Mary Queen & Mother Care on the Cardinal Ritter Senior Services Campus participating in daily Mass, group activities (especially Bingo), music and time with friends and family.
Jean lived her entire life in St Louis. Born January 24, 1929, the first of five children (John, Carol, Jerome and Jim) to John and Esther Pelly. A graduate of St Anthony’s High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Bernard ‘Bud’ Simon on April 30, 1949. Jean was the loving Mother of four; her sons Richard (and Joan Simon) and John -deceased (Leslie Simon) and daughters Barbara (and Charles Loeb) and Kathleen (and Frank Robey).
During her life she enjoyed being a wife, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, mother, godmother, grandmother and great grandmother. Jean worked at J.C. Penney’s and enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. Jean and Bud, post retirement, spent many fun filled days trailering and traveling to and with family and friends. In her later years, after Bud’s passing, Jean enjoyed the companionship of her friend Richard, a lovely kind-hearted man. She had a servant’s heart and was always found “doing” for others until the very end, consoling, befriending and comforting those in her retirement communities.
Jean was a beloved Grandmother to Tammy (Ben), Jamie, Melissa (Rick), Molly (Stuart), Bernard Scott (Michelle), Garrison (Angie), Benjamin, Grace, Daniel (Paola), Christopher (Jaime) and Rachel (David). Beloved Great Grandmother to Kaila, Leah, Alex, Natalie, Kirk, Sarah, Abbie, Simon, Avery, Andrew, Ashton, Eliana, Alexandra, Olivia, Emma, Anna and Baby Baird. Jean’s husband Bud would often comment when the family was all together, “Look what we started” and they would both smile lovingly.
Above all, Jean loved and gave all to family and friends. Her grace, kindness, humor, amazing love and memories will continue to inspire each of us who knew and loved Jean, Mom, and Grandma. The fond times and now memories we’ve shared with her through the years will inspire us to goodness, kindness and heartfelt peace. We are thankful for the time we’ve had with you and will always be blessed by you. Till we meet again dear Mother.
Services: A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be scheduled and announced at a later date. Check back to this website for updated information.
