James Patrick Herrmann

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, James “Jim” Herrmann passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Jim was the dear husband of Maureen Ann Herrmann (née Walsh); devoted father of Kate and Peter Herrmann; loving son of the late Jack and Joan Herrmann (née Hogan); dear brother of John (Helen) Herrmann, Jane Herrmann, Joe (Tracy) Herrmann, and Janet (Heath) Barnes; cherished son-in-law of the late John and Polly Walsh; and a treasured brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, loyal friend, and proud Beta brother.

To know Jim was to know someone whose greatest joy came from supporting his family. Whether he was sitting in the audience at the Clark Academy of Irish Dance, cheering from the sidelines at an Ursuline Academy lacrosse game, following St. Louis U. High soccer with unwavering enthusiasm or rooting for his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football, Jim was always present. He rarely missed an opportunity to watch his children, nieces, and nephews pursue the activities they loved. His presence in the stands became one of the greatest gifts he gave his family.

Jim was a proud graduate of St. Richard’s Grade School, De Smet Jesuit High School, and Washington University in St. Louis. A dedicated student-athlete, he played football at both De Smet and WashU, where he forged many of the lifelong friendships he treasured most. At Washington University, he also became a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, strengthening bonds that endured throughout his life. Whether reconnecting with teammates, fraternity brothers, or classmates, Jim deeply valued the friendships that began during these formative years and remained an important part of his life.

Jim possessed an extraordinary intellect and an insatiable curiosity. Whether solving a difficult computer problem, offering IT support to family and friends, or engaging in thoughtful conversations about politics and current events, he was someone people naturally turned to for advice and perspective.

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, steadfast faith, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for his family.

The Herrmann family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the many health care workers at Mercy Hospital, especially Dr. John Stein, a dear friend and an extraordinary physician.  Your compassion, dedication, and exceptional care brought comfort to Jim and our family, and we are deeply grateful.

Services:  Visitation and Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 1510 Bopp Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63131. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Michael Jezewak Scholarship Fund at De Smet Jesuit High School, or Marian Middle School are greatly appreciated.
