Joan O’Neill Lunt
Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Monday, May 22, 2023, at the age of 84 following complications from cancer. Beloved wife of the late Harry J. Lunt, dearest mother of Victoria Lunt Morrison and Harry J. Lunt Jr., devoted grandmother of Luke and Andrea Morrison and Gage Eveland, loving daughter of the late Dr. John B. O’Neill and Isabel (Fry) O’Neill, dear sister of Patty (R.B. III) Clark and John B. O’Neill, Jr.
Joan’s father was Dr. John B. O’Neill and he was known for delivering over 13,000 babies. Everywhere Joan would go, people would say, “Joan”, your dad delivered me. Joan was heard saying…..”I did the math, and wow, my dad was incredible”, as that is 35 and ½ years of delivering a baby every day!
Today, Joan’s kids, Harry J. Lunt, Jr., and Vicky Lunt Morrison both hear the same thing, as Joan taught for 37 years, and everywhere the kid’s go, they hear, “your mother was my schoolteacher”. Apparently, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
Quick background:
Joan went to Villa Duchesne High School.
Besides being an outstanding student, Joan was also a notable athlete, as her team went undefeated during her four years in Field Hockey, where Joan played goalie.
After Villa, Joan headed to NYC and spent a couple of years at Duchesne furthering her Sacred Heart education. Joan shared great stories of exploring Manhattan while realizing that she wanted to become a teacher. So, Joan headed back to St. Louis, where she graduated from St. Louis University. Joan also received her Master’s in Education from Maryville University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude specializing in Early Childhood Development.
Later in life, Joan received the coveted Très Bien Award, which is given to Villa Duchesne and City House alumnae who demonstrate in their lives, the traditions and values of their Sacred Heart education.
As Joan’s love of her life, Harry J. Lunt died in 2004, Joan took on the roles of matriarch and patriarch, where she mastered both beautifully as mother and grandmother, and so much more.
