Joy L. Kopp
(formerly Joy Davis), born in Luling, Texas, and raised in Kilgore, Texas. Joy Kopp earned a PhD in History at Texas Christian University, in Ft. Worth, Texas. She taught American History and World Civilization at East Central College (ECC), in Union, Missouri, from 1978 to 2005. Also at ECC, she was Social Science Division Manager from 1992 to 1997. For many years, in the 80’s & 90’s, she guided groups on history tours in Europe. She also traveled to Mexico, Peru, Australia, and China.
She was a resident of Crestwood, Missouri for many years, she moved to Washington, Missouri in the 80’s, and then Dutzow, Missouri. In her final years, she settled in Washington, Missouri, her son, Mark Wood, returned from California to look after her. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church-Washington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Kopp, of St. Louis, Missouri, and her parents, Della Mell and Elliot C. Oden, of Shreveport, Louisiana. On August 3, Joy Kopp passed away from a stroke. She was 87 years old.
Joy Kopp was a thoughtful, caring person, loved by all. She is well remembered by her colleagues and students. She loved animals. If you wish to give a donation on her behalf, the Humane Society of the United States would be the charity of her choice.
Services: There will be a Memorial Service celebrating her life, with two music performances, on Saturday, November 18, at East Central College, John Edson Anglin Performing Arts Center, 1964 Prairie Dell Road, Union, MO 63084 at 2:00 PM.
