Lily Duggan December 9, 1935 - January 20, 2023

Lily Trout Duggan

Lily was born on December 9, 1935, the older of twin girls and fourth child, to Louis and Helen Trout in Saint Louis, MO. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up on Lindell being able to walk with her twin sister Ginny to and from school at Our Lady of Lourdes. Lily graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart (City House) in 1953 where she made many lifelong friends. College years found her at Grand Coteau before graduating from Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in 1957. She was active in the alumni associations at both Villa Duchesne/City House and Maryville University serving on boards in various capacities. She received the Tres Bien Award from the Villa Duchesne/City House Alumni  Association. Lily was a true child of the Sacred Heart.
Lily married her husband,  the late Samuel Duggan, on November 7, 1959. They shared sixty-two years of marriage with their five children and eight grandchildren. Doing good for others through volunteering and spending time with family and friends was the focus of their lives.
Lily led by example with volunteering in the Saint Louis community at large. In addition to her time and efforts with the Villa Duchesne/City House and Maryville Alumni Associations, Lily served on the Fleur de Lis Board, the Villa Duchesne Board of Trustees, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital Board, and a Dame in the Order of Malta.
Lily enjoyed trips to Macatawa, MI initially with her girlfriends (with children in tow) to play bridge, antique and catch up with one another. The MI trips evolved into family trips where card games, golf cart rides, eating ice cream and watching sunsets were favorite activities.
Lily’s Catholic faith was a centerpiece of her life. She was involved in her parish, Sainte Genevieve du Bois, for 61 years and in the Children of Mary Sodality.
Lily is survived by her four children Beth (Doug) Van Horn, Sam (Shawn) Duggan, Patty (Jeff) Otto, Ellen (Michael) Ariston, her eight grandchildren Ben, Ally and Nicholas Duggan, Andrew, Peter and Caroline Otto and Chloe and Dylan Ariston as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death  by her husband Sam Duggan, her daughter Ann Duggan, her parents Louis and Helen Trout and siblings Helen (Bill) Meyer, Jim (Beverly) Trout, Louis (Diane) Trout and twin sister Ginny (Bob) Distelrath.
