Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023 at the age of 96; beloved spouse of the late William for 71 years; dear mother of Mary Grace (John) Sundy, Alexandra Nancy Guyol, Catherine “Kitty” (Michael) Peer, Dr. William B. (Mary) Guyol, Jr., Mark J. (Joan) Guyol; loving grandmother of 17; great grandmother of 37; dear sister of the late Thomas Lawton, the late Dr. John “Jack” T. Lawton, the late Ellen Jane Lawton, and the late Joseph Lawton; dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin.

Mrs. Guyol was born and raised in St. Louis by her loving parents, Dr. Thomas P. Lawton and Grace Dougherty Lawton.  She graduated from Visitation Academy and from Maryville College.

In recognition of her activities in connection with the Catholic Church, Mrs. Guyol was named a Dame of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and a Dame of Malta.  She served on the Northern Lieutenancy Council of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre for 8 years.  Mrs. Guyol and her husband Bill were honored to serve as Hospitality Chairs for Pope John Paul II’s visit to St. Louis in 1999.  She also was a long-time phone volunteer at Birthright Counseling/St. Louis and served as President of the organization in its early years.  She received the Monsignor Hartnett Award in recognition of her service to Birthright.

Mrs. Guyol dearly loved her Faith, her Family, and her Friends. She especially enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and baking with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her selfless devotion and care of her husband Bill and their children were an inspiration to all who knew her.

The family wishes to thank Joyce Whitelaw for her compassionate care of Mrs. Guyol and the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus for their loving care at St. Agnes Home.

Services:  Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at The Church of the Immacolata, 8900 Clayton Road in Richmond Heights. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Birthright Counseling St. Louis, 2525 S. Brentwood Blvd. 63144.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at The Church of the Immacolata, 8900 Clayton Road in Richmond Heights. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
