Matthew Weis July 5, 1935 - August 27, 2025

Matthew William “Matt” Weis, Jr. 

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on Wednesday August 27, 2025 at the age of 90.  Dear son of the late Dr. Matthew and Catherine Weis Sr.  He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sue (Orman) Weis.  Loving dad of Katie (John) Newsham, Ellen Weis, and Matthew (Stacy) Weis III; cherished grandfather of Clare (Chris) Bowen, Grace, Mary, and Erin Newsham; Ryan, Adam, and Evan Weis; great-grandpa of Harper Rose Bowen, dear brother of Mary (late Bob) Riesmeyer.

Matt attended Our Lady of Lourdes School, Saint Louis University High School and the University of Notre Dame, class of 1957.  He worked his entire career as a Development Officer at Saint Louis University, dedicating 36 plus years.  He served on the board of Saint Louis University High School and Nerinx Hall High School.  He also was an auxiliary firefighter with the University City Fire Department for over 20 years.  Matt enjoyed spending time with family and long-time friends from grade school, high school and college.   Matt touched the lives of many through his warmth, good humor, and unwavering kindness.  He will be forever missed, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories.  The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and caregivers at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital and Fairmont Senior Living.

Services:  Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 6th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 7148 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis MO 63105.  Visitation at 10:00 a.m. with the Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Private family burial at Calvary Cemetery.  Donations can be made to Backstoppers: PO Box 795168 St. Louis, MO 63179-0700. https://backstoppers.org/donate/
