Russell ‘Russ’ James Coppin

94, of Ellisville, MO, Entered into Rest on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Born on September 9, 1930, in St. Louis, MO, Russ was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Betty (Krage) Coppin, with whom he began a beautiful marriage on January 7, 1950, at St. George Roman Catholic Church in Affton, MO.

Russ was the devoted father of Dianne (Jim) Gerken of Ballwin, MO, Nancy (Terry) Maynard of Clayton, NC, and Kevin (Vicki) Coppin of Eureka, MO. He was the proud grandfather of Daniel Gerken, Emily (Mike) Jorgensen, Matt (Allie) Coppin, Brian Coppin, Beth Coppin, Brendan Maynard, Michael Maynard, Margaret Maynard, and Jonathan Maynard. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Elliott Jorgensen, Anna Coppin, Jonah Jorgensen, Henry Coppin, Abbey Coppin and Reya Gerken. Russ is survived by his sister, Lorraine (Coppin) Schroeder, and was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Edna (Kern) Coppin, and brothers, Kenneth Coppin, Jr. and Donald Coppin.

A proud “Southside Catholic” graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Class of 1949, Russ’s last employment was delivering and servicing coffee machines for area businesses. He also proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting, and bird watching, and found joy in traveling as well as collecting and restoring antiques. A passionate St. Louis Blues hockey fan, Russ was thankful to have lived long enough to witness a Stanley Cup victory. Known for his kindness and sense of humor, he found joy in bringing the past to life through his many stories and delighted in the deep pride he had for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Russ’s devotion to his Catholic faith, and profound love for his family were the cornerstones of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services:  A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 9 at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 350 E. Fourth Street, Eureka, MO 63025 at 10 a.m.
