Steven Bernier July 5, 1956 - March 12, 2026

Steven T. Bernier

Departed this life on Thursday, March 12, 2026, after a brief illness at the age of 69.

Beloved Son of Lorraine M Bernier and the late Donald R. Bernier.  Brother to Catherine (Mark) Hubert, Patricia Bernier, Carol Bernier and John Bernier (James Patterson).

Uncle to Blaine (DeAuna Wolf) Hubert and Clayton (Teresa Barnes) Hubert and Great Uncle to Adelaide Hubert.  Dog Dad to Pierre and Louie.

Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska, Steven and our father were very involved in the Boy Scouts, and he attained membership in the Order of the Arrow.  A 1974 graduate of Parkway West High School and a 1978 graduate of Mizzou, Steve joined the Peace Corps immediately after graduation and spent 6 months teaching English to French speaking children in Burkina Faso, West Africa.  He returned home and enrolled in Nuclear Medicine school at The Mallinckrodt Institute at Washington University and moved to Palo Alto, California where he worked at Sanford University Medical Center in Nuclear Medicine for 15 years.  He returned to St. Louis in 1998 and began his dream career working in the service industry for over 25 years.  His favorite job was at Duff’s in the Central West End. He also worked at Wildflower, Hamburger Mary’s, The Kingside Diner and Lazy River Grill where he made many friends over the years.

Steve loved traveling internationally.  He would research a location for months before leaving and plan all the places he wanted to see.  He traveled extensively in Asia and Europe many times and loved to share his travel stories and pictures with family and friends.

In recent years his biggest passions were gardening and the boys” Pierre and Louie.

Steve had the best eye for plants and gardening.  He created amazing landscaping and many people commented on how beautiful the flowers were outside the home he shared with Carol and our mom.

Pierre and Louie brought him more joy than anything else in the world.  He loved visiting the dog park with them nearly every day. He took them with him wherever he went, and “his babies” were always by his side.

For the last year he had been an excellent care giver to our mom, taking her to appointments, and out to lunch, making sure she was well fed by cooking her breakfast every morning.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Louis Stray Rescue or Circle of Concern Food Bank.

A celebration of life will take place at the home of Carol and Lorraine Bernier on Sunday, May 3rd from 1-5 p.m. Bring your gardening gloves and trowels and we will plant flowers in Steve’s memory. Picnic BBQ will be served.  Please Park at the southeast end of Schroeder Park, 359 Old Meramec Station Rd, Manchester, M63021 and look for balloons leading the way to our backyard.  Rain date May 17th.

One of my favorite folks to work with at Duff’s. We did some pretty silly matching Halloween costumes one year.
