August 7, 2025 at 9:31 amMr. Mischief, rest in peace. There were days when us cousins would play along the tracks and bluffs in front of Augusta. Uncle Vern told us that we would get sucked under a train when a train would go by if we were anywhere near the tracks. Well, one day we followed the creek from Augusta to the bottom of Welker’s hill. We were by the tracks when a train was coming. We ran up into the woods and hid behind big trees; that way the train suction would press us up against the trees rather than pull us under the train. The train went by without creating any suction force. That’s when we realized Uncle Vern was fooling us. I guess it was his way of trying to stop us from messing around near the tracks and keep us safe.
