Donald Joseph Kain
86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of service, adventure, and deep devotion to family and community. Born in Manhattan, New York City, Don lived a life as vibrant and dynamic as his hometown.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Don continued his commitment to public service as a police officer with the Nassau County Police Department. He channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into a thriving carpentry business, and after retirement, into the culinary world, becoming a beloved co-owner of The Library Restaurant in Port Washington, NY—a cherished local gathering place known for its warmth and character.
Don was a man of boundless energy and curiosity. Whether skiing down snowy slopes, exploring the depths through scuba diving, teeing off on a sunny fairway, or hitting the open road in his RV, he embraced life with enthusiasm and joy.
Don later moved to Pennsylvania and extended his passion to the baseball diamond as the number one superfan of the York Revolution. His cheer, “1-2-3 Hit the Wall!” rang out from the stadium each time a Revs player went to bat. His 1st baseline seats near the home dugout were just right for leading cheers, occasional umpire jeers, and greeting players, many of whom lived at his home during the season. He deeply loved his friends and fellow Revs fans, who meet every Sunday for breakfast.
Above all, Don was a family man. He is survived by his four daughters: Lisa Kain, Alison (Fred) Lohmann, Rachael Kain, and Deirdre (Paul) Barnhart, as well as seven grandchildren: Alexander Kramme, Peter Kramme, Charlie (Mary) Lohmann, Jacqueline (fiancé Garrett Welsh) Lohmann, Hannah Barnhart, Austin Barnhart, Erin Barnhart, and two great-granddaughters: Zaina Kramme and Jane Lohmann, each of whom carry forward his spirit of adventure, resilience, and love. Don maintained loving relationships with his former spouses Susan DiDomenico and Kris Tafuri.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
