Marie ‘Elaine’ Nicholson August 23, 1952 - May 24, 2021

Marie ‘Elaine’ Nicholson

(nee Watson) Entered Into Rest, Monday, May 24, 2021.

Beloved wife of Earnest ‘Nick’ Nicholson, dear mother of Anne (Michael) McGinnis and Beth (Adam) Roberts, dear grandmother of Grace and Alex, Hannah and Isabel, dear sister of Grace Fuentes, Jerry Watson, John Watson, and the late Mary Alice ‘Mimi’ Watson and Joseph Watson, dear sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend.

Elaine grew up in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania and moved to St. Louis with her family just in time to start fifth grade. She attended St. Monica’s Catholic School through eighth grade and later graduated from Parkway Central High School. Elaine met Nick while participating in Junior Achievement. It was “love at first sight”. Elaine and Nick married on June 3, 1970. Elaine then spent the next 4 years as a Navy wife in Florida, where they welcomed their daughter Anne into the world. While Nick was in the Navy, Elaine worked as a life guard. She loved the beach and the water. After Nick finished his tour, they returned to St Louis and started a life here. Beth was born in 1981. Elaine spent many years working in retail but eventually moved onto accounting. She retired from the St Louis Zoo finance department in 2017. After retiring Elaine loved to spend her days helping to get her granddaughters to school in the morning. Her other passion was going to garage/estate sales. Always on the hunt for a great treasure. She opened a booth at the Green Shag when she realized she couldn’t really keep all the treasures that she found. In 2018 Elaine was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She fought hard and even endured an autonomous stem cell transplant. For 2+ years she was in full remission. During 2020, when COVID kept her close to home, she developed a love for gardening and start plants from seeds. In February 2021, she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Unfortunately and very rapidly, this syndrome converted to Acute Leukemia.

Elaine’s final days were spent at home surrounded by her beloved husband, daughters, sons-in-laws, grandchildren, siblings, and other family members.
