Stephen Mead
was born on August 26, 1983, and passed away suddenly on March 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments captured both on camera and in the hearts of those who knew him.
Stephen was a devoted and loving husband, an extraordinary father, and the very best uncle. He loved fiercely and wholeheartedly. His family was the center of his world, and he showed that love every day through his kindness, selflessness, and an unmistakably big heart. He was deeply cherished by his nieces and nephews.
A talented video producer, Stephen built a career doing what he loved: telling stories through the lens. He worked with the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues, and many other sports teams, capturing powerful moments across stadiums and arenas. Outside of sports, Stephen also filmed weddings, where he was known not only for his beautiful work but for his deep emotional connection to each couple’s story, often shedding more tears than the wedding guests themselves.
Stephen was known for his infectious laugh, his compassion, and his ability to make people feel seen and valued. He brought warmth into every room and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Though Stephen carried private challenges, he met them with courage and determination. He achieved 2,907 days of sobriety, a milestone that reflected his strength and filled his family with deep pride.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Katie Ryan, and his cherished children, Ryan Frick and Payton Mead, who were the greatest joys of his life. He is also survived by his mother, Josie Mead, and was preceded in death by his father, Walter “Sonny” Mead.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Chris Mead (wife Beth Mead, children Connor and Casey Mead); Stacey Loomis (husband Dave Loomis, children Veronica Mathis—married to Joey Mathis—Harry Loomis, and Johnny Loomis); Vinny Mead (wife Araceli Mead, children Rosemary and Lourdes Mead); Sean Mead (wife Brittany Mead, son Isaac Mead); and Sam Mead (wife Jackie Mead, children Sonny, Elias, Billie, and River Mead).
Stephen is also survived by his father-in-law, Norman Ryan, and his sister-in-law, Kelly Long (husband Rick Long, children Ellen, Claire, and Grace), along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him beyond words.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Payton’s College fund.
Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 9:30 a.m., both at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2618 S. Brentwood Blvd., Saint Louis, MO 63144. A luncheon will follow the service in the school gym.

April 10, 2026 at 7:47 amTo Stephen’s family and friends,
I had the pleasure of knowing Stephen through our mutual work with the Gateway Grizzlies and the St. Louis Blues. His wit and infectious laugh is what I will remember. What a terrible thing it is that we have lost him at such a young age. Often he would bring his daughter to the Grizzlies press box while he was working the game. It was obvious that they had a deep, loving connection. Please accept my sincere condolences. I will remember him fondly.
