Suzanne Collins March 15, 1948 - March 19, 2024

Suzanne Veronica Collins

Peacefully passed away on March 19th, 2024, with family by her side. She was born on March 15, 1948, to the late Lois C. (Heckmann) and Kenrick Jones, Sr. She was the second child of eight siblings, including Douglas (Carolyn), Kenrick Jr. (Ann), Deborah Day (Laurence), Diane Osberghaus (late William Sr.), Robert (Anne), Terrence (June) and Lois Ann Jones.  Suzanne graduated high school from City House.  After attending Marymount University in Washington D.C. for 2 years, she graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  She then proceeded to teach at various institutions, including Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill.  In 1971, she met Dennis Collins at a wedding. Both immediately fell in love, married in 1972, and celebrated 51 years of marriage on August 5, 2023.

Her greatest pride and joy in life included the arrival of their sons, Brendon in 1981, and Corey in 1984. Suzanne supported the boys in all their activities and she engaged in philanthropy for many organizations across St. Louis.  She particularly enjoyed co-chairing the St. Louis Charitable Foundation debutante ball with her father in 2004. Suzanne was also a beloved and devoted friend to many.

Suzanne’s strength and indomitable spirit will live on forever in those she leaves behind, including her husband, Dennis, sons Brendon & Corey, daughters-in-law Mandy and Beth, her four grandchildren Chloe, Brendon Jr, Claire, and Kate, as well as many devoted family and friends.  Suzanne’s motto and the way she lived her life was “Never stop caring. Never stop giving”.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

I met Suzanne 60 years ago when we started Candy Striping together at St. John’s Mercy. We have been best friends ever since- she is my daughter’s Godmother and I am Brendon’s Godmother. She is the best and kindest person I have ever known. She gave me a special gift engraved with friends until the end, but it never really ends in your heart. My deepest sympathy to Dennis and her family. Love and prayers, Judy Brierton Hudson
