Peggy Symes July 23, 1938 - February 8, 2026

Peggy Lynn Symes

Long-time St. Louis resident Peggy Lynn Symes passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 surrounded by her sons, Scott, David, and Steven, and their wives, Stacy, Anne, and Lori.  She was a loving mother, a proud grandmother to Allison, Abby, Brennan, Trent and Kepler, a dedicated public servant, and a generous friend whose life was marked by service, curiosity, and compassion.

Peggy was born on July 23, 1938 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Cleo Walter and Ruth Walter (nee Cribbs).

Peggy’s life was truly complete.  Her greatest joy was her family to whom she was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and encouragement.  She was a committed community leader, having served terms as Alderman and Mayor of Town and Country, Missouri.  She was an ardent supporter of higher education, having earned multiple degrees of higher education herself.

Peggy embraced life with enthusiasm and grace.  She was an avid reader whose curiosity never waned, an enthusiastic traveler who delighted in exploring new places and cultures, and a passionate lover of the arts.  Her appreciation for music and culture found lasting expression in her philanthropy.  As a long-time board member and generous benefactor of The Sheldon Concert Hall & Galleries, she believed deeply in supporting institutions that enrich community life and bring beauty and inspiration to others.

Peggy will be remembered for her intelligence, kindness, civic spirit, and steadfast devotion to those she loved.  Her legacy lives on in her family, in the community she helped shape, and in the cultural institutions she so generously supported.  She will be deeply missed.
